US Senate (and perennial
Eric Hovde has been the candidate of chatter recently, mostly due to his "gaffe" and the barrage of ads he's bought. Tommy Thompson has never really gone away considering his high profile in Wisconsin political history and news stations willingness to reference him all the time, but what about Mark? Neumann hasn't really had ANY TV exposure this political cycle at all. Doing a quick You-Tube search of "Mark Neumann for Senate" nets you more Eric Hovde results than anything for Neumann if you put an "upload date" filter on it. Then again, is Neumann just letting groups like the Citizens United & Club for Growth do his dirty work for him? This story from the National Journal points out that this video from C-SPAN shows former Governor & Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson supports an individual mandate! I guess the message is "Tommy's too liberal," but where is the "vote Neumann" message? If it's out there, I sure haven't seen it.
So what did Neumann say Sunday morning? Well, the answer is not all that much. I will post the video if & when it becomes available online, but the fact of the matter is that Neumann keeps hammering home the same points that lead him to losses in 1998 against Russ Feingold & 2010 against Scott Walker. He talks about being a business owner and creating local jobs over 30 years as a business owner, and he wants to create business with businesses for business people doing business... etc, etc. He did manage to made a few "digs" at Eric Hovde's long residence in Washington DC & only moving back to Wisconsin to run for Senate, but other than that, where is this campaign going? Has it stalled out? I mean, Hovde is really "going for it" on TV & getting his name out there, but where is Neumann? I'm already convinced Tommy's not winning (and Club for Growth videos of him supporting mandates only reinforces that), but who will win the nomination? I've always thought it's been Neumann's race, but Hovde is really coming on strong.
Think Hovde's too crazy, far out, and slick as a hedge fund manager to EVER be accepted by Wisconsinites? Remember this guy? He's soon to be the "Senior Senator from Wisconsin" (YIKES)
