1. November can very likely change things if we don't work!
Republicans see a HUGE target painted on the back of Jim Holperin's 21st District in the north woods, and also have their sights set on my own Senator, Jessica King in the 18th District. Senate President Mike Ellis in the article says this:
"It's not a big hit," Sen. Mike Ellis (R-Neenah) said. "We're going to have the majority back in November."
Talk about confidence! I generally like Sen. Ellis as he is an old tyme Republican who I think is lost in a sea of neo-stalwartism in this state. That being said, there are days when I just have to cringe at what he says.
2. Democrats need to play offense or we will let it change!
I know some don't, but I love Sen. Erpenbach. He ain't going to be in the Wisconsin Senate forever folks, as his overtures towards Sen. Tammy Baldwin's seat were clear before Rep. Pocan & Rep. Roys decided to thrown in. I would peg him as right now one of the more likely candidates the Dem's have in their stable for higher office after the recall primary and general elections.
That being said, WE DON'T NEED YOU REINFORCING THE NEO-STALWART NARRATIVE with the MJS taking what you say and writing it like this: "Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) said gaining the majority in the recalls was important for the Democrats but acknowledged they would play defense in the fall."
Senator Holperin's seat is by no means lost already, but it will take a very good, very north woods, very Wisconsin candidate up there to gain traction and win. However, one seat that we CAN HOLD ON TO is Senator King's in the 18th! Trust me! I live in Fond du Lac! She has a following here, and her visibility is WAY more than Randy Hopper's ever was. (Aside from his own PR firm in KFIZ)
But boots on the ground are what will make the difference in both elections. Fond du Lac and Oshkosh are working towns and usually opposites when election season hits. Fondy = R, Oshkosh = D. But a STRONG early campaign by the Dem's to knock out whomever comes out of the woodwork on the Republican side (Be it Rick Gudex of the FDL City Council, or even whispers of FDL School Board Member Eric Everson), we need to set the narrative of the campaign EARLY! Like, July early!
But it sounds like we're playing defense.
3. Redistricting Maps
This was wayyyy off my radar, simply because I had forgotten, but at this point what happens with the maps and the "confidentiality" between law-firm and Senate Republicans under Senator Scott Fitzgerald? Sen. Erpenbach I know made some waves a while back saying that as a member of the Senate he should have been entitled to any documentation between the Senate and Michael Best & Fredrich Law, but as of right now what does this change? (I'm looking at you @illusorytenant)
